You could very easily adjust your build to do damage and a "monking" role with something like this. Just make sure the other healer is resto, HB, ER, or something. Smite is a terrible attribute by itself, I don't blame them.

Go Smite/Prot... Protective Spirit, Aegis, Guardian are always nice, though if I were you I'd just H/H all of it. Play how you want too play, all that matters is you have fun..

For those that think a monk is just for heal/prot, WHY IS THERE SMITING?

I've had two monk characters total since I've played GW.
BOTH HAVE BEEN STRAIGHT SMITERS.

The first (which I later deleted) was a Mo/Derv which used Earth Prayers for self-protection as she wailed with Signet of Judgment, Bane Signet, Banish, and Smite.
Obviously, I had this character prior to getting Factions, but the build still worked.

My current Smiter is a Mo/Me, using Bane and Castigation signets with Mantra of Inscriptions, in addition to Ray of Judgment, Spear of Light, and Banish.

It's fun.
But then again, I neither PuG nor PvP.

Overall, to each his own.
If you don't like people complaining about your build, change your build or find a different group.

Open and shut case, it seems.

this isnt your personal fantasy where you can be the special fairy expressing your creative world. people want to get things done as fast as possible.. and guess what, doing damage is integral to that. maximize damage, bring enough to keep damage alive.
